Yes! All sauna heaters that are UL listed (in the United States) are designed so that you can throw water on them. This includes traditional indoor and outdoor saunas.
The electrical you’ll need will depend on the size of the heater/ sauna that you have. Always check the sauna heater installation manual to ensure the correct wiring will be connected to the heater.
The smallest traditional saunas (4’x4′ Hallmark Series) we offer use 1.7kW or 2.3kW heaters and can use 120 volt – 15AMP or 120 volt – 20AMP (dedicated) outlets respectively. Any traditional electric sauna with a 6kW heater or larger require 30-45AMPs – 24o volt power (AMPs depend on the size of the heater).
Our Finnleo Infrared S-Series Saunas will can be plugged into a standard 120 volt – 15AMP outlet or 120 volt – 20AMP outlet depending on the model. Learn more about the S-Series Infrared Saunas here.
Our modular Finnleo InfraSaunas (hybrid) will use either standard 120 volt- 15AMP, 120 volt – 20AMP dedicated, or 30 AMP – 240 volt power depending on the model.
Custom saunas (traditional, infrared and hybrid) require 30-45 AMP – 240 volt power.

Yes. In some cases, it’s actually possible to have both a wood fired heater and an electric sauna heater in the same sauna.
You have to have a space to put your custom sauna. In most cases you’ll need to wire in 240 volt power (if you’re putting in an electric sauna). From there, we can help you turn any room into a sauna no matter whether you already have the sauna space framed in, are taking down drywall in a current room, or are starting completely from scratch.
If you are building an outdoor sauna, you’ll need a flat surface to put the sauna on. Ideally the sauna has a concrete pad, or pavers to sit on.

A modular sauna comes pre-fabricated in panels to form a free-standing sauna. Each of the panels, or sections, connect together.
A modular sauna is a great way to put a sauna up quickly and gives you the option to take it with you when you move.
We offer standard panel built outdoor saunas as well as customized outdoor saunas in a variety of sizes. Our Euro saunas come standard with a Clear Western Red Cedar exterior and Nordic White Spruce interior.
Our NorthStar outdoor saunas utilize Nordic White Spruce on both the interior and exterior.

Traditional saunas typically range from 160°F to 194°F, while infrared saunas operate at 120°F to 150°F. Wood-fired traditional saunas can get even hotter than 194°F.
The ideal range depends on the person and what you’re looking for in a sauna. Some people like a softer sauna with higher humidity (160°-180°), where others prefer a hot and dry sauna (180°+). Experiment to see what works best for you.
Depending on the heater you put in your sauna you can control the humidity for a softer sauna experience. The Finnleo Himalaya is one of the heaters you can do this with.
A typical sauna session lasts 15 to 30 minutes. However, it’s best to listen to your body and stay hydrated.
For general health benefits, 3-4 times per week is recommended, but some people enjoy using them daily.

Saunas promote detoxification, improved circulation, muscle recovery, stress relief, better skin health, and enhanced cardiovascular function.
Health benefits aside, they feel amazing to bathe in!
The exterior of an outdoor sauna should be stained, sealed or painted to protect against the elements.
A popular exterior on our Custom Outdoor Saunas is LP Smart Paneling. It’s more cost effective than using clear cedar, thermo-aspen or hemlock and yet looks great.
Traditional saunas generally do not require a drain unless you plan to pour water over the benches or floor regularly.
That said, a drain can be nice to have in the sauna. You may have to occasionally wipe the floor down in the sauna with a towel if you don’t have a drain.
Cedar deck board floors, tile with anti-slip properties, or concrete work well for saunas. Avoid carpets or absorbent materials.
Floors with vinyl false tops are popular in our saunas.
Cedar deck boards are commonly used in our outdoor saunas, especially when installed near a lake or a swimming pool where you plan to sauna-swim. Deck boards will do a better job of letting water through the cracks than a vinyl false floor.
