There are many ways to create a one of a kind, unique modern sauna design. With each and every custom sauna we build, we strive to create a unique sauna design that will both stand the test of time and provide a unique aesthetic for decades to come.
Modern, Nordic Sauna design is based on clean lines and a contemporary look and feel within the sauna room.
Whether we build with Clear Western Red Cedar, Clear Canadian Hemlock, Black Taika, or Nordic Spruce our sauna spaces are built to compliment your exact design style.
There are many components to modern sauna design but perhaps the most important is based upon clean lines.
Our custom saunas, no matter the wood type you choose, are built using clean lines and complimenting wood types to create a truly modern sauna experience.
Creating a modern sauna design starts with the wood you’ll ultimately choose. For a truly modern look and feel, consider opting for a wood that is clear (meaning it contains no knots). Our clear sauna wood is Western Red Cedar, Canadian Hemlock, or Black Taika.
The traditional Finnish sauna features Nordic Spruce wood. In fact, it is estimated that more than 90% of saunas worldwide are constructed of Nordic Spruce.
Nordic Spruce, while it contains small tight living knots, presents many advantages for it’s use in the sauna. Nordic Spruce is one of the most affordable ways to create modern elements, while staying true to the traditional Finnish sauna.
Our custom sauna designs can be sized for spaces of nearly any size. They’re built to last today and decades from now.
We hope you enjoy this gallery of modern sauna designs. As we continue to build custom saunas, whether they’re indoors or outside, we will continue to update this gallery.

Modern sauna design starts with choosing the correct wood type. There are many factors that go into choosing the correct wood type, especially the size of your sauna room.
If your space is smaller in nature, you may elect to go with a lighter wood such as Nordic Spruce or Canadien Hemlock.
If you have a larger space, Black Taika or Clear Western Red Cedar work well.
With that in mind, wood type by size is not a one size fits all. Designing a modern sauna goes far beyond simply choosing the correct wood type. You should consider all elements, such as the sauna door, lighting, and bench design when creating a functionally designed modern sauna.
