The Homecraft Apex series isn’t your typical electric sauna heater. Built entirely in Surrey, British Columbia by a family company that’s been manufacturing saunas since 1988, these floor-standing towers hold up to 325 pounds of rock – about 8 times more than a standard wall-mount heater.
That massive rock capacity creates the kind of soft, consistent heat and powerful steam that makes you understand why Finns have been doing this for thousands of years.
Available in four power levels (10kW, 12kW, 15kW, and 18kW), the Apex handles everything from medium home saunas to large commercial installations.
The Protected Element Air Chamber – their proprietary design – shields the heating elements while directing heat efficiently through that huge rock mass, which means better löyly and longer element life.
Here’s what makes the Apex worth considering if you’re looking for serious heating power:
Most wall-mount heaters hold 40-50 pounds of rocks; the Apex holds 310-325 pounds. That’s the difference between okay steam and the kind of löyly that makes you close your eyes and smile.
Homecraft’s unique airflow system protects heating elements from direct rock contact while maximizing heat transfer. The expensive parts last longer, and you get more efficient heating.
Gyms, spas, and hotels trust Homecraft because these heaters hold up under constant daily use. You’re getting that same commercial durability, backed by a 1-year residential warranty
Homecraft has been manufacturing heaters in Surrey, BC for 35+ years, testing every unit. The price reflects real craftsmanship and materials built to last decades, not disposable products.
Four models (10kW, 12kW, 15kW, 18kW) cover everything from a 8×8 foot home sauna to large commercial installations, with voltage options for different electrical setups.
Every Apex heater meets North America’s strictest electrical and safety standards through independent third-party testing. You’re getting a heater that’s been thoroughly vetted, not something that skipped certification to cut costs.

The Apex series includes four models ranging from 10kW to 18kW, covering sauna rooms from 400 to 1,150 cubic feet. All models share the same compact 18-inch diameter footprint and hold 310-325 pounds of rocks. Here’s the breakdown:
Daily: Nothing. Just turn it off after your session and let it cool naturally.
Monthly: Check that rocks haven’t settled or shifted to block airflow.
Annually: Remove and wash rocks, inspect heating elements for any damage, check electrical connections for tightness, and rearrange rocks for optimal airflow. This takes about an hour and is something you can do yourself.
The heating elements are considered consumable parts (not covered by warranty) and typically last 8-15 years depending on usage frequency. Replacement elements are available, and installation is straightforward for an electrician.
Every Apex heater includes:
The heater comes with detailed safety warnings about hyperthermia risk, alcohol use, supervision requirements, and proper ventilation. These aren’t just liability protection – they’re important guidelines for safe sauna use.
Residential installations get a 2-year warranty covering manufactured parts and workmanship defects. Commercial installations get 1 year. Here’s what’s NOT covered: heating elements (consumable parts), general wear from normal use, damage from improper installation, modifications, or user error.
Keep your installation documentation and proof of purchase – you may need them for warranty claims.

Calculate your sauna’s cubic footage (length × width × height) and match it to the heating capacity. For a 6×7×7 foot sauna, you have 294 cubic feet – the 10kW is perfect. An 8×8×7 foot sauna has 448 cubic feet, so you’d want the 12kW. Don’t undersize – undersized heaters run constantly and struggle to recover after water throws. If you have large glass doors or poor insulation, bump up one size. Call us at 612-505-9700 if you want help calculating your needs – this is the kind of thing we do every day.
From room temperature, expect 45-60 minutes to reach 170°F depending on model, room size, and insulation quality. You could leave it on constantly (some commercial facilities do this), but at home it’s expensive and unnecessary. Most people turn it on 45-60 minutes before they want to sauna. The digital timer lets you set precise session lengths.
240V single-phase is standard residential power. If you have a typical home electrical panel, you have 240V. 208V three-phase is common in commercial buildings and some condo/apartment complexes. Three-phase power distributes the load across three wires instead of two, which can be more efficient for larger heaters. The Apex 18kW is ONLY available in 208V three-phase. For the 10-15kW models, choose based on what your building has. Your electrician will know immediately which you need.
The Apex comes with a 2-year residential warranty and 1-year commercial-use warranty.
Annual rock rearrangement and cleaning, plus a quick electrical check by your electrician. That’s about it for routine maintenance. The stainless steel doesn’t need any special care. The digital control is solid-state with no moving parts. Eventually you’ll replace heating elements. Homecraft heaters are known for low maintenance – they’re designed for commercial installations where downtime is expensive.
